Buying Knives While They're Available

I got a great deal on an old Camillus CQB1 and I freaking love this knife. Looking around for them when available, they are selling for way more than it's worth to me on ebay. I just can't bring myself to pay a premium for a knife that I'll be stuck with if there are any problems with it. I use my knives, which shows any problems, and have needed warranty service more than once.

Like many here, I have a running "Knives I Want" list and now I feel a sense of urgency to aquire the knives on that list that are currently available before they're discontinued.

I just e-mailed the distributor for the next knife on my list and was told they have 3 or 4 left, then it will be a while before they're in stock again. Out comes the credit card :o

Anyone else miss out on something you really wanted because you waited just a little bit too long?

Missed out on a Cold Steel Black Talon. Just recently got into knives about a year or so ago and they had already been discontinued. Thankfully I was able to pick one up on ebay for not too horrible a price. I do have a bad feeling when the ZT 0777, 0888 and 0600 come out I believe they are going to be limited runs and it might be hard to get one of those on time

There are a few models that I like that have been discontinued and are now hard to find. If it is something that you want then prioritize your buying towards knives that are out of production or that might go out of production and let the ones that are more plentiful and/or still in production wait until later.

You are more than just a little late for that Camillus. Usually companies announce what knives are being discontinued. Maybe a little more research will tell you which ones should be a priority.

In late-May or June when the blue M390 Para 2s were still available, I had to wait for funds before I could get one. When the time finally came to order, they were gone just a day or two prior. Finally got one just two weeks ago. I got cold feet and pulled the trigger after debating for three or four days. So glad I did because they were sold out just a day after I ordered.

I bought one of those Camillus CQB knives on closeout back when for $30. It was a budget model though, came with a nylon sheath instead of the hard sheath that I see on some. I haven't looked at that knife in years... thanks for the reminder. :)

I too love the Camillus CQB. I own 2 Camillus CQB1's plus a Meyerco version (still in production) and 2 Gryphon M30 versions (still in production). You can buy the Gryphon for about $75 new (blade only) or $100 with a sheath (amazing value).
