Has anyone purchased leather from Weaver ? I assume their strap leather would be ok for sheaths. Just looking for another source for material. I've used Tandy but it's hit and miss but they are close enough that I can go and pick my own. Any suggestions ? Likes or dislikes for Weaver ?

Over the years I've bought a herd of leather from Weaver. As long as you stick with the Herman Oak you're probalbly ok. I've no experience with their other tannery Cahin I think it is. I have received some very bad sides from them too and to their credit they have always taken care of it. One time got a side that was onnly partially de haired. Ya got to look at the shipping dept and say like who packaged that sucker up. But they did take care of it. Check out Hide House and Maverick leather too.
 
Thanks, I'll check all links given. At least I'm not the only one who has gotten bad leather, thot it was just my dumb luck. I did get some nice stuff from W&C.
 
I've started buying from Hidehouse upon Dave's recommendation. I've purchased about 6 double shoulders from them in the last year. I'll take and use sight unseen economy grade from Hidehouse over hand picked premium from Tandy.

The thing about Weaver is if you call and talk to them, they are extremely polite and helpful, they will enter any of your special needs into your account. I asked for all of my leather to be wrapped separately because Fedex can chafe them up sometimes. No problem at all.
 
Yeah i called weaver and ordered some stuff they seemed pretty good. Should be pretty nice but face it the small amount needed to make a sheath should be pretty easy to pick. If theres any bad spots ill save it for a basket weave and hide them. Looking forward to working with better goods vs economy brands.
