I'm working on a couple of khukris right now. One has a thick flat point on the tip and apparently I'm going to need to use a file to knock it down. Somebody suggested a bastard file. When I go to Home Depot tonight to pick one up, what should I be looking for?

This khukri is your standard $15 leafspring knife, nothing special. I just want it to work properly.

Thanks

there are good Indian and Chinese files, but they are the exception rather than the norm (I have actually seen plenty of decent Chinese needle files, but larger stuff seems pretty poor on the whole).

The US, Scandinavian, Swiss, or Austrian made files are expensive but usually worth the extra cost, an easy way to find the right files is to look for downhill ski edging files, they are almost always exceptional quality and they are the right cut for most edge work.
