Hey guys I'm looking for some guidance on my next purchase. I've already made the decision to go with either a swamp rat or scrapyard knife. I'm looking at something 5 inches or under and under 150.00$. It will be an edc knife and when not on my person it be in my jeep or duty bag for work. I'm was looking at the rat rodent 3, rodent solution or the ratmandu. I also like the scrapyard SYKCO 311 and 411.
Suggestions ?

Thanks for the opinions guys.

Check out Keith Murr's Small Companion, though it'll cost you a little more ($175.00).

While a bit large as an EDC for many...the RMD is a must-own knife for those who like Bussekin.

Those always help... ;)

From top: R4, 411, RS, 311, R3
And the 5 inch

R5, RMD, 511, 411, R4

elof strikes again! Nice lineup!!

blade junkie, every one of those you have listed are excellent, but since you are talking for edc, I would suggest the Rodent 3. It is a very convenient size if it's going to be on you most all the time. No losers in your line-up, though. Good luck!

If the knife is going to be in your bag I would go with the 411 or check out the Scrapyard Mutt line.

I find I can pocket carry the R3 pretty easily, I can just get 4 fingers on the handle.

And the second line there is the ticket! Pocket carry easily, & for belt carry it's not in the way or larger than a mobile phone. But when in hand, it's awesome! I found myself running late to cook supper and the hamburger was partially frozen. I proceeded to tear it into smaller chunks with my ole R3 and the shorter handle was perfect for the blade length. Cupped it in my hand (heel of hand against the end of handle) and pushed/pried away without fear of my hand slipping down the blade.
I bought mine off the exchange. It's Custom Shop satin with black/red G10 scales. I'd order a CG, but my least favorite coating is the black crinkle stuff, with no other option. If money was tight, I'd get it anyway.
If you want a fist full of handle (sometimes very desirable, but more in the way when not in use), Rodent Solution or 311.

If you'll decide on R3 (it is a great little knife) then contact custom shop and order full flat grind, makes a lot of difference for cutting tasks, and at that thickness is plenty tough as well.

I have two 311's picked up another in the latest Ganza so that's my pick. I also have a Rodent Solution and a 411. If you have really big hands the 311 probably won't feel as good as the RS or 411. The RS is much heavier and is pretty thick towards the tip and you may feel the need fix that. If the 411 fits your size requirements for EDC then go for it. Mudder handles rule and I can't think of anything that can be improved on that knife. Once you pick the knife then you have to decide on the sheath!

I will be ordering a RMD as soon as I have the funds. I pulled out my Esee izula for edc which I forgot was in one off my grab bag!

I love my 411! I did strip the blade coating off and put a great edge on it and I edc it ( well whenever I leave the house) and I love it wouldn't trade or sell it for the world. I use it for food prep or whatever I can just cuz I like to use it so much! So my vote goes to the 411!
