I have it narrowed down to the the Becker Bk11 or Bk14. I font plan on getting handle scales, and have no need for the bottle opener (and I have heard about a wire cutter). Anybody handled either knife enough to have an opinion, our have another suggestion in the sub-$40 ~3in. blade neck knife (with a decent, preferably carbon steel)?

They are both good knives, with a paracord wrap they are comfortable in the hand. I prefer to add the micarta scales they are just more comfortable for me.

If you don't care about the bottle opener, it comes down to which handle is more comfortable for you. Also, the pommel ring on the BK14 can be used to dangle the knife from a finger while doing another task briefly, much like a Chinese ring dagger.

If you up your price ceiling to $50, the Scrapivore is quite good, with a prybar handle and amazing steel. Some don't like the handle shape of the Scrapivore, though.

The Scarpivore is a bit over-the-top for me, seeing as my knife will likely get no more use than opening a few packages and letters, maybe some food prep. I just picked the 1095 because it is cheap, takes a great edge, and I know it is reliable. Sorry for just destroying your recommendation, I mean no offense, it is just a few steps past what I could ever need.

Oh, I forgot to mention, Condor has some nice looking neck knives in the $20 range. I haven't used any of them, but their 1075 is good stuff.

Izula, the bk11 handle is not for me. the bottle opener is way not nessasary. I would go Izula then Bk14.

If you don't need the bottle opener go with the Bk14, I personally like having the bottle opener but I do think the 14 is a little more comfortable in hand.

I picked up a Condor neck knife and am having a terrible time getting it sharpened. I am having the same issue with my new BK14. Maybe it is the Worksharp. None of my other knives, which are not 1095 or 1075 sharpen up very easily.

I'm with the other guy who said ESEE Izula------I got one and am tempted to order another!

Would the BK14 be a good surrogate for the Izula (I just can't see throwing down about $40 more for a better warranty and a slightly better knife)?

If you dont need the bottle opener, the 14 is better; the 11 has a shorter handle. Scales definitely improve it though. IZULA would be a good choice. I also like my BRKT Bravo Necker 2, and Blackjack has one in 154CM also.

The BRKT and Blackjack are very nice, but just way too expensive. Were I to win the lottery, I would likely get both, but until then I have to keep it cheap.

I have and like both. BK11 feels good with paracord and great with micarta scales. BK14 feels a bit better with just the paracord and just as great with micarta scales. Can't go wrong with either - I use both of mine all the time.

If I had to pick just the one, it would be the BK11 *if* adding micarta scales or the BK14 if not.

When I get my return credited back (less than a week), I will be ordering the BK14. Thanks, guys.
