Buying my first Leek....steel question..

Hi All;

I'm new here and am about to buy a EDC knife that's as flat, fast & as sharp as possible...I like the looks of the Leek, but I see they come in different blade steels....I'm going to use this as an everyday work knife and will be cutting rope, cardboard & some thin leather....It won't be abused, and I resharpen every couple of days on average...
Question: Is the S30V far superior, or is the standard 440 SS good enough? I'm not after a custom knife or safe queen, as it'll be used....The Leek seems to make sense to me...Are there any cool mods you can do to this knife to make it more "user friendly"?...Also, are all model Leeks the same thickness, or is the ST basic model the thinnest since it has no fancy scales? If they're all the same thickness, I'd be open to more Leek models, as I'm trying to get a very flat knife...(personal preferance...)..

Also, I'd like to invest in a small, quality sharpener that give a razor edge, but isn't bulky and have many parts like my old Lansky....Do you guys use diamond stones?

Sorry for all the questions, and thanks for any input here...

Regards

Yes, the S30V is far superior to the standard 440. Spend the extra money. It is worth it. The stone washed S30V blade on the Leek is of very high quality. Mine came from factory very sharp. It holds an edge for a good long time. 440 steel seems to get dull very quick.

Of the current production Leeks with S30V, I would think that the Random Leek (1660TGRYST) would be the thinner of the two, since it doesn't have the G10 scales of the 1660G10. According to the Kershaw site the Random Leek is heavier than the G10 Leek though.
Thomas ought to be able to give us a definitive answer on the thickness question though.

The G-10 is lighter than the stainless steel handle, but the Random Leek is much harder to find, and only available with a partially serrated blade, if that matters.

Just found a G10 Leek, with the S30V blade & black G10 handles...Partial-serrated, too...(the smaller, uniform serrations, not the larger/smaller scallops)...I'm guesing this is the new version serrations?
I'm in negotiations now!!!!

This looks like a nice knife....I'll advise when the deal goes through..

Thanks for all the input here..

SS handled ones are slightly smaller and thinner that G10 models. There is no SS/S30V Leek but you can change the blades between two.
