I was talking to a boat broker recently that made an interesting statement. "most people know in a few minutes that they want to buy the boat. The rest of the time they spend looking for reasons to justify the decision"
Think carefully. Do you ever see yourself doing that with a knife?

Yes i can see doing that with a knife Tom, but if were talking about buying at a knife show i find myself looking around first knowing taking too long someone else might buy it.

A boat usually cost a lot more then any knife so i see your point about knowing you want it, but taking a while after that to justify your decision.

Well, not too many knives cost what most boats do, so the "justification" process is usually a lot less profound, and the penalties for making a mistake, is much less painful.

I always know right away if I like a particular knife - but having bought, sold and traded many knives, I have to ask myself, do I NEED to OWN this knife, or is it enough that I can appreciate it?

I find myself moving more toward being satisfied with an appreciation of certain knives, and keeping my actual ownership down toward a miniumum of a few blades that I will actually carry and use.
