Hey folks,

I have a for sale post in the Bussekin subform, and a member replied in the thread with the usual "I'll take it". Unfortunately, he has no PM or email, and has not sent me anything. How long should I wait until it's up for grabs again?

Some things to consider:
I did not specify time I'll wait in my original post
The interested party only has 1 post
There are a couple of inquiries on the knife he/she wants to buy

Thanks!

I have never dealt with the exchange forums here but maybe putting up a post that says you need to be contacted with the next 24 hours or you will sell it to the next in line may work. Seems odd to me that if a member said they wanted your item they would not contact you to finalize the sale. Again, not sure how that really works, just my 2 cents. Perhaps someone who deals with the exchange more would be able to chime in.

If I don't know them (meaning I've dealt with them before or have known they for awhile, some I've let make payments over time), I would only wait about a half a day. I'm not going to miss a sale due to the person not being responsible enough to follow through with the sale communication. If they have the time to post "I'll take it", they have the time to communicate and finalize the sale. Just my opinion.....................

Thank you, gentlemen. I don't sell too many knives, but a "I'll take it should be followed up with an email/ PM or knife will be no longer held" will be in my next sales postings.

Sounds like 24 hours is fair.

I would keep it up until paid for. If they want it truly, they will pay for it.

I think Garth and Randucci make great points. About half a day is long enough, and in this case posting in the "for sale" thread that he/she needs to contact you within a set timeframe is fair.

24 hours
There were many times in the past I would check on my way out the door for work and only had time to say "I'll take it" only to contact the seller as soon as I could get back home.
1/2 a day is not long enough to wait
You can always post you are waiting for the 1st poster to get back with you and you are taking back ups incase it falls through.

I think that a post on the thread with a follow up e-mail is really the only acceptable way to do it. Delays between me and sellers in the US are always about time zones and not attention to the process. If you have had no follow up with 24hrs I would just post and say it is back on the market or it has been offered to the next in line.

If it's their only post ever and they didn't follow up immediately, I'd sell it to the first person who as ready to follow through immediately. If the poster had positive feedback already, I'd wait and assume it was a situation like 1whobuys posted.

I would of course give a poster that is out of the USA more time because of the time difference. But someone within the USA, half a day or 12hrs. does allow them to get home from work. Lets face it, for almost all, knives are a not a necessity, but a luxury, a person will put out the extra effort if they really want the knife (or anything else for that matter) and get back to you soon to lock it up.

All excellent advice from some very experienced sellers. Let me just add........

If you are uncomfortable with the transaction and you don't like what you are seeing........STOP and LEAVE.

Don't feel obligated to continue a transaction if your warning signals are going off. Until money changes hands there is no deal. After that it is a real pain to rectify matters.

Many sellers put something in their sales threads like "I reserve the right not to sell to anyone I don't wish too" I think this is a good practice.

Have fun........:)

I would (and do) wait at least 24 hrs - and I've waited over a weekend several times for some that don't have computer/internet access at home.

Thank you very much, folks.

Issue has been resolved (no reply from the one time poster), but I've learned a thing or two from the transaction.

I would have to agree with this.
