I am looking for some rattler skin for sheath inlays. I looked on Ebay and found some reasonable prices on skins, but I don't want to buy garbage. What are some things you should look for when buying a skin, as I have never done so before? Anyone have any recommendations of a reputable source of quality snake skins?

Thanks

My absolute favorite seller either on eBay or direct Tom Kinder 1-316-321-9302 (bsktcas) on eBay. eBay store is Skin n Scales. Has tanned (this is what you want for inlays) or stretched and dried. Perfect tanning, excellent quality, and I guess fair prices, at least I think so for the product and I use a lot from him. Good luck.

Hi,

I'm new here. But just a word of caution. I was looking on Ebay for some hides also. I checked some buyer comments from a couple of sellers. There were a number of negative remarks for sellers because, apparently, shipments were seized and buyers lost their money and the skins. The hides didn't have the necessary paperwork and thus, illegal. Don't know all the facts for sure but try to buy from reputable people.

i4Marc, I think your statement needs to be expanded upon, please. What kind of "hides", which sellers, were they shipped internationally or CONUS, where were they seized.????? Many here ship internationally and this type information is important. Thank you, and welcome to Blade Forums.

Hey Paul, next time you see my brother Ray (the tailor) remind him he promised me a Laredo rattler skin I ain't seen yet.

Sorry for the delay Sheathmaker. I was away this weekend. I was referring to Ebay sellers in general. I'm not sure whether naming specific sellers is wise since they do not have the opportunity to defend themselves here. But in this one particular example I was looking at Stingray skins. I took a quick look at their negative feedback and at least one buyer's post mentioned "Seller, no export/import papers to sell snakeskin, mine was siezed, and got my $". These skins were coming from Pattaya, Chonburi, Thailand. This may not be a widespread problem but maybe something to keep in mind.
