Buying versus selling - What to do?

So I learned a few years ago that it is almost always a mistake to sell a sebenza because you end up missing it. That being said I found a very nice, but expensive sebenza today that I like, and it's just exactly what I'm starting to focus my collection on.

I could sell two less expensive sebenzas that would cover or almost cover the cost of the one I'm looking at. I'm tempted. What do you think, good idea or bad idea?

Also while I'm on the topic, do you think limted edition woods hold their value pretty well, or do they sell second hand for a big discount?

If I were you I'd ask myself if this new collection focus is part of a long-term collecting evolution or if it's a fad. If the new focus is in fact long-term then I'd get that Sebbie. But if I thought it would be short-lived then I'd keep the two Sebbies in question. I know it's hard to see into the future but I try to look forward by examining past cycles in my life. I, like most people, tend to ebb and flow but I usually return to a baseline pattern. So ask yourself which Sebbie(s) best reflect your baseline pattern.

Those are very good comments. Definately worth p ondering, I don't think that until recently I have established a baseline pattern.

I've always regret selling things that aren't easy to replace...

The very thought of selling one of my Sebbies makes me feel sick. :barf:

Is one Sebbie really worth giving up two? I say keep the two and try to save up for the one. But that's just me. :p

Since I already have a number of sebenzas, the utility of adding yet another is probably not as high as exchanging two for one more sought after one. AT least that's what I'm trying to determine.

Someone said in the General Discussion Forum a few years back that "Life is too short to not carry the knife you want to carry." I've since subscribed to this modality of thought. In my opinion, one sweet Seb in the pocket is worth three in the safe. Just another point of view...

Professor.

Go with youur gut. If you sell off the two for one and decide you wish you hadn't, you can always buy another (or two) to replace the one/ones you sold. :D

Dave,
Given that you've got two Sebbies up for sell can I assume that you've made the decision to go for the new Sebbie? Hope you enjoy it very much. Post some pics for us when you get it. ;) ;)
