Buying - Whenever or limit yourself to schedule?

I know how the bug can be.. do you still buy when something catches your eye or do you limit yourself to a schedule (1/week, 1/month, etc)?

It all depends on the funds. Most of the time, I'll try to limit it to one every month or two, but occasionally, that itch needs to be satisfied, and i'll pick up a few cheapies that'll tide me over for a bit.

Like YayILikePie, its more a matter of budge than schedule for me. I have a certain amount of disposable income every month that I budget to spend on "toys" like knives, guns, photography, etc. If I am buying less expensive toys, I might pick something new up every week. If there is something more expensive I have my eye on, I might hold off any new purchases for a while to cover the cost.

I buy one whenever I see one that I like better than what I'm currently carrying. And since I've been EDC'ing my BM710 since January '06 and nothing has come along that I like the looks of more, I haven't bought a knife in a long time.

I picked up an S30V Buck Hartsook when they first came out, and a Spyderco Centofante 4 at some point since the 710, but I think those two are it.

There have been plenty of knives that I've wanted, but in the end I concluded that I wouldn't carry them because I like the 710 better, and I don't have the patience or desire for an "EDC rotation," so I don't buy.

If Spyderco would put out a D2 Paramilitary without those ugly green handles, then I'd probably be buying a new knife.

But no, there's no schedule, and I go on a knife by knife basis.

It depends on your budget.

We're all grownups here, people can buy what they want. But they shouldn't buy more than they can afford.

I don't collect or impulse buy, and after a couple of years of being into knives still own less than 20, so I'm an odd case.

Are you kidding? You know the sea food diet? I see food, I eat it. Same with knives. :D

OK, there's got to be a limit. At this point I ask myself where it would go in the rotation. Then I ask myself where I would put it when I'm not carrying it. This pouch is full, that drawer is overloaded, I keep tripping on the bag on the floor with the fixed blades ...

Greed is good but there's got to be a limit.

I buy when I see something I can't live without or a deal I can't pass up and I have the discretionary funds to do it. The up side to all this is that when I went for a couple of years without employment I sold a couple hundred off for just about what I had in them.

I spend a little more or less than what I used to spend on cigarettes. I try to keep it around that number on a monthly average basis. If I know I'm going way over I sell off some that I don't care for so much anymore.

No knife stores near me so I essentially buy knives just to be able to handle them a little bit. Otherwise I probably wouldn't buy so many! :D

I try not to cave in to temptation more than once every one or two months, sometimes longer. In alternating months, I splurge on other vices. :D
