After looking at that buck date code Chart I realized something.
While I currently only have 4 it turns out that every single one of them was a year old when I got them brand new.
Has this happened to anyone else ?
And is there something that causes them to sit on shelves for a whole year ?

The Box should have the month the day and the year it was made... It could be they bought them at the end of the year... or they Just didn't sell... Until you came along... Who knows... I know where some old stock is right now sitting in a store in California... I hope it's still there when I go back this summer...

:)

Man, I find Buck knives in stock that are as much as ten years old, still NIB. Not everyday, but it happens; recently went into a gunshop that had six new Buck's in their display case, all from 2008 & 2009 - I bought two of them. OH

My local shop has NIB Paperstone 110s and 112s on the shelf. I might just pick one up today. I'm tired of looking at them...lol. Burgundy ir Green?

Paperstone, jump on those, won't see them again.

Finding a store with really old inventory is what I call a "Honey Hole" ...... I've found my share over the years.

Are those the ones they called the ecolite ? I liked those, but not the style of handle grooves.

My score:
1 - green 110 from the display w/ sheath, no box
1 - green 112 with box, sheath, and card
2 - red 112 with box, sheath, and card

Cleaned him out... I'll get photos up at some point. All are 2012, new, and have factory edges.

These are the two Buck 112 that I bought in early April at a gunshop, both still new in a display cabinet with boxes. One had the wrong sheath but the price was right on them. OH

Here's the booty:

On the fence about whether I'll hold on to them or barter them off for something more my style.

Hold two, barter two.

To answer OP. As long as I have been 'in the know' about Buck knives, there have always been lots of knives made previous to the day you look at the box in the store. They call it 'inventory'. I am sure Buck would love to sell all they produce before that calendar year is over, but that's not reality. I have no problems buying a older knife as long as no production change has occurred. It is up to the buyer to decide whether they need to put effort into checking with the seller on what year knife they are getting. The big difference in knives via mail or knives bought over the counter. A Buck bought from the factory will be checked by the nice folks at the factory store before mailing if you request it. 300

I'll have to check the "best used by" date on my late-1960's era Buck 102 Woodsman.
