BWBM vs. CGFBM ?

I am in the process of narrowing down a great backpaking / camping chopper with a limited amount of funds. I think that the BushWacker BM and the CGFBM are my two best choices. They both seem like all-round great knives and significant choppers. I am leaning towards the BWBM because of the price right now, but since I've never handled either of these knives I am wondering if those of you who have wielded them could put their two-cents worth in.

I LOVE the way the CGFBM looks and hear such great things about it and it isn't as heavy as the FFBM, but the BWBM looks great too. Any thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks guys!

If I remember correctly Ankerson said the CGFBM chopped a helluva lot better than the BWM.

What happened to your FFBM?

You can buy a BWM LE, might be something worth looking into.

A car accident happened to it....:( If I could have driven my FFBM to work I would have done it, but unfortunately I needed every penny I could throw at a new vehicle. Thus I had to sell the Beauty...:( It was a sad day, believe me.

Ah that sucks, good luck on the hunt. My vote is with the thicker CGFBM over the BWM. I'm back on my thick kick.

get the BWM, while you can at the price.
...sooner or later you WILL own a CGFBM...:D
honestly, I have both, and while I just LOVE the looks of my CG, I think the BWM is just more usable as a big knife, and simply less tiring on your hands.
The CG is more solid -probably a better chopper, and really feels indestructible, but it's the max, what I would carry around.
don't listen to hogs, who talk about MOABS and FFBM's, NMFBMs...:D

...despite saying all this, resistance is futile. a CG is a "must have" category...;)

Yeah, but if I had the cash for a BWMLE, I'd just buy a CGFBM. I might be able to get one if I find one at a good price, but as of right now the BWM looks good. But as 230 said, it might not be the best chopper (compared to the CGFBM) so I'm not sure....

The CGFBM will probably outchop a BWM all day.

Cool, ikkyo, thanks! Yeah, I figure that if I buy a BWM that they will definitely go up in price once Jerry stops production on them (just like everything else). Maybe be able to trade it later for a CGFBM. Just a thought anyways....

Yeah I feel ya man, I just though since you were considering CG it might not be that much cheaper then LE at factory price. And LE in that case would make more sense, since you can use it, and still later sell it for more in case you need the cash. Its a beautiful blade as well. Another thing to note is that improved KZ is coming sooner or later. I'm kinda stuck at the cross roads myself, well at least I was till I saw that new team Gemini 7 blade, now I know what needs to be done.

Yeah, that Gemini 7 looks pretty cool. Oh, I missed that on the KZ. New and improved? Huh. I hear nothing chops better than a Kukri, so that would be awesome!

Jerry hinted here and there, said that the advise from the KZ test team has been taken into consideration. So I'm not sure when and where, but I think it will be the next large blade offering. I also heard somebody say that AS might be coming back. And there was that edited picture from the production meeting. These are just rumors, but I know I'll be getting that 7 and no matter what comes out I'm saving up for it.

I won't buy another Busse until the KZ is released. Maybe weeks, maybe years, maybe never. Who knows?

Edit, i'd also buy a folder.

Yeah I did, and yes it will by a huge margin, they are 2 totally different blades. :D

The CGFBM is much closer to the FFBM than the BWM is to the CGFBM as far as chopping performance is concerned. :)

But as others have stated the BWM is available now at Busse prices while can usually find a CGFBM without much trouble.

CGFBM all the way. If you've used a FFBM and found the weight to be acceptable then going for the BWM feels like a toy knife. THe CGFBM falls nicely in between and can chop light or heavy stuff equally.

I'm sure if you put up a wanted thread and also from this thread you will have a few people offering you a CGFBM in no time at all.

I'd be contrarian & recommend the current offering on price & weight to carry backpacking.

That said, i don't own one yet. I'll definitely pick up at least one before they are 'gone'. I may skeletonize the handle to move balance forward, based on what i'm hearing. I'd try it out myself first, of course. But it's something to consider.
