I see CF a lot - Competition Finish.
What others are there (besides LE)?
I just purchased one with a green blade, is it a CG?
Man I got a lot of questions...

For all models (I think) the options are:

Satin
Competition Finish (sort of a factory ghetto-satin/raw treatment)
DC (bead-blasted)
Coated (many colors and patterns)

CG doesn't always mean Coated, technically. For example, my ASH1 was a CG but came with the (optional) DC finish. Granted, many (probably most) CG knives are coated - but it's just not necessarily a given.

In your case, however, with a BWM - if it's coated it's a CG variation.

Thanks for that. While you were typing this I threaded my way through the maze of posts on the subject.

It appears that the CF is a fairly recent development, if I am not mistaken.

It is not listed in the common Busse glossaries; that I can find.

I just closed the deal on a BWM with a green blade / green & black handle. Can't wait to see it in person.

CF as we know it today is very new. The CF BWM is the first to sport the CF with the addition of double cut (bead blast). Previously the blade had a very unfinished look that was prone to decarb and oxidation. I really like the new CF.

Yeah, the CF is pretty recent in Busse history.

Some BWMs, Hell Razors, and Sarsquatches for sure, maybe others.

The Competition Finish started in '08 iirc

Jackhammer, Hell Razor, Satin Jack Tac, and Sar Squatch were the first. again iirc.

I agonized between the Jackhammer and Sar Squatch at Blade 08. The Jackhammer won, its such a good looking knife.

There are two different "Competition" types...

Competition Grade was what the pre-BWM versions were called... they were not beadblasted, still had lots of decarb, and rusted pretty easily because of it.

Competition Finish has only been used on the BWM so far. It is the same as Competition Grade except that it has been beadblasted to remove the decarb to avoid that rusting problem.

Comp Finish BWM's were only available at shows, and also sport a highly polished convex edge.
