BWM sheath advice?

After going all year fighting the urge to get a BWM, I finally broke down and picked up a comp finish one from last year's knob creek, should arrive tomorrow by the tracking.

I'm looking for a good sheath for it... something drop leg to get it down under my love handles, and something light weight. I LOVED my chuddy bear for my SAR8, but it was a bit heavy for what I want.

Kydex isn't an issue as it's a comp finish, who cares if it gets rub marks? :D

I have heard that a ScrapYard 10'' Cordura Shealth works. They have a thread about it on the SY Forum.

I say go with Okuden. Almost every knife of mine has a matching Okuden A&-T sheath. Brian makes an awesome product! His site is here:

Eric at Mashed Cat makes great ones and that's what I have for my BWM. He has lots of cool carry options for them too. :)

Congrats on your CF BWM score.

How is the retention on the mashed cat and okuden options? If I go with kydex, I want something that locks in really well, but without needing two hands to pull back out. ;)

Mine is exactly like that...comes out smoothly with one hand and locks in great.

Buy Brown made me an awesome taco kydex with teklok in Chocolate to match the tan on my BWM...excellent sheath

If I recall correctly, Brian does a drop test on all of his sheaths. He ties a piece of rope to the sheath (with the knife inserted) and drops it, upside down, from a certain distance (7 ft. comes to mind) to see if the retention is good. His sheaths have really good retention but it's not difficult at all to un-sheath the knife.

7' would be a little over the top if you ever want to get the knife out of the sheath... but I do believe the number is 18";)

I have tried drop testing but more often try to feel what should be used if I were to carry the knife into the woods or out in the field for retention.

+1 for Mashed Cat based on the quality of the sheath Eric made for my Active Duty and all the sheaths Eric has made for my son.

I have one ordered for my BWM.

I stand corrected. You know, I reread my post and 7' DID sound too high but that's what came to mind :o. 18" sounds better to me.

Eric's sheaths all let the knife pop loose with the thumb. I do put a little olive oil or mineral oil on my res-c handles near the choil because the bigger sheaths are a little grabbier.
