Just another one of those things that bears repeating (Yea, I know again and again and again)

I got up a little early yesterday to do a little grinding before going to work. The sun was just starting to come up. I was only putting an edge on the blade I just finished.
So I figure this will take maybe a minute or two. Didn't put on my mask. (What a dummy!!!)

First two swipes across the belt and I could see a shower of super fine steel and abrasive grit dust form a cloud around me. Something you would not normally see except the light was just right...

Mask went on right then and now rests on the grinder. Imagine doing that repeatedly over a number of years.

Next purchase is a shop air filtration system.

I agree about the Dust.
But on another note...
That is the best time of the day to me,when the first rays of sun are shining through the shop as I am working. It is just a perfect and peaceful feeling. The only thing that comes slose is to be setting in the woods and having a deer come by in those frist rays of the morning sun.Ain't life grand

Was just reading today an artile about steel in the latest issue of Blade. They speak very strongly of the toxicity of vanadium. If you're grinding a steel with any of that in it, for God's sake wear a respirator! They told of a knifemaker who got very ill grinding a steel with .2% vanadium in it. It is very toxic. I agree with Mr. Hankins about the importance of a shop air filtration setup.
