I finally decided to join the knifemaker ranks here at bladeforums.
I've been building since about 2007. I got a lot of great direction from Gene Martin (Provision Forge), I really owe him a debt of thanks, and have really enjoyed learning what I've learned so far.
I'm looking to bump up my game a little, so I decided I may as well graduate from the hunting forums and start lurking around here, where the real knife builders hang out!
I'm still using mostly homemade equipment, but I'm tuning it up, and hoping to legitimize myself!
I'll be posting some stuff here and there, but I'm mostly learning from you guys!
Here's a few pics of a blade I built to donate to my Church's youth missions fundraiser auction. (I have no idea what it sold for!)
It's a etched ATS34 Blade, ATS34 guard, Leather/Elk/Leather/Whitetail grip. I did the sheathing as well.
I build ATS34, D2, and some sawmill bandsaw budget stock. Plasma, grind, and electric heat treat. I hope to get into a forge soon (Of course I'll make it myself!) but I haven't made the jump to that side yet.
As per Gene's influence, I grind by hand, without tool rests or jigs. I'm not purist though, I'm an entrepreneur, so you never know!
