What are your experiences with Byrd knives? Are there some quality control issues, and are there better Spyderco's for the money.

I have had a few byrd knives and for the money the only comparison is the tenacious/persistence line from spyderco. I personally would go with the spyderco variants just because I like the hole shape better.

1. Any knife company can have quality control issues that slip through. The Byrd knives I've owned (and do own) don't really have any more than knives from any other company.

2. For the price? No, there isn't any better Spyderco's for the money. There are some comparably priced knives from Kershaw and CRKT that are worth looking at, but I'd be hesitant to call them better. Kershaw and CRKT do offer their excellent lifetime warranties on all of their value-priced lines, unlike the 1 year warranties on the Byrd knives.

use the search function in the top right, and look up byrd knives, lots of info on them

Byrd Knives are basically Spyderco on a budget. From my experiences, the metal isn't good, I think it's 8cr13mov. The handle's pretty good, but the F&F isn't as great as a $100 Spyderco. However, for the price, I think they're great knives. You can't expect to have a perfect, smooth knife for that little money.
