So I finnaly decided to test out the Byrd Cara Cara 2 in G10 scales as my buddy finally bought a walmart ozanark or whatever crappy ass blade they sell at walmart for like 5 bucks and that just wouldn't do. No ways in hell would I let someone carry a crappy knife like that, espeically when that knife could be counted on to save my life! I got the blade from yourcornerstore.com along with 3 Cold Steel True Flight Thrower (look for review in knife throwing section) and it came super fast. It was also the cheapest place I could find which was like 27 bucks or so. Any ways, I was suprised at how much it reminded me of my spyderco police but in some ways it was better. There was jimping on the front and back of the handles for increased grip and I could adjust the position of the clip to all 4 corners. The blade was razor sharp although a quick thumb test didn't feel all that sharp. It was still able to easily shave hair off my arm and wittle a peice of my hair in to 3 peices which is my standard in testing sharpness. The blade lockup is nice and tight. The handle in G10 is awesome as well and replicates my Police in G10. The weight is just about the same which really isn't that heavy. The only down side is that the blade is a bit tight so I'll need to tell my friend to get a torx driver to loosen it up just a bit if he wants to be able to flick the blade open with gravity and a flick of his wrist. The blade isn't quite as long as my police as well which is just a hair larger but I notice although 99% of the population probally wouldn't. The new full flat grind blade is a friggen huge improvement in shape as well as design from the original byrd cara cara which has that stupid snoop in the first half of the blade which is suppose to imitate a bird's beak. Who in the F came up with that design??? seriously@! Anyways, My friend is very happy with it and I told him that I would give it to him as long as he would actually wear it and use it; and if not, to give it back to me if he didn't like it or would not use it. I think I could put an even sharper edge on it perhaps but either way, I hope to see him using it. I enjoy sharpening knifes and told him not to be afraid to use it cuz I could always improve it if need be.

Thanks for the review -- I love my SS Police, and I've had the Cara Cara on my 'to try out' list for some time.

Could you point me to a picture of the previous [stupid] blade shape?

as you can see, it looks like it has a dent in the blade. The cara cara 2 has a blade shape which is much more like the police which is more of a standard drop point. I think the Byrd Cara cara 2 look a hell of a lot better then the original. Also, I was considering the light weight plastic version but I have always had a love affair with G10 and love the way it looks and better yet feels in hand. I would never give someone something second rate (aka the Byrd cara cara 1 in FRN) even if it is quite a bit cheaper, it's just not the way I am.

P.S. The only reason why I'm not carrying the Byrd Cara Cara 2 in G10 for EDC is because I already have a great EDC and have not used it once. I actually carry 2 blades, my primary being a spyderco Bug which I actually use quite a bit and does it's job very very well and a back up which is my ColdSteel Ti-lite 6incher which is retardedly sharp (sharper then the cara cara) and long. I have yet to actually use it and until I do, I'll keep it in pocket as my EDC. Hopefully my friend will use the Byrd Cara cara 2 and I can report back with some actual evidence on how it cuts in the real world. It should be a great slicer/cutter.

I personally liked both versions of the Cara Cara though admittedly the newer one is better, especially the flat grind which is my favorite grind for pocket folders.

The little slope in the blade is actually a place for your thumb to rest when you choke up on the blade ;). Works great either way though.
