First off, I love the G10 Cara Cara. At approx $40, it is a steal of a knife. G10 scales, steel liners, Spyderco's bulletproof lockback design... just a good knife. What I did is shown in the pics below that I'll ask you to bear with, they were taken with my phone. My "knife shop" is very rudimentary, most work done freehand with a Dremel. The intent with the knife below was to modify a wave into it yet still keep the lines of the blade pleasing to the eye.

My next Cara Cara will be a little more drastic. I plan on removing all blade that sits above the handle while closed yet still retaining the wave hook. Then I will grind a double edge for 3/4 of the blade length, most likely convex on both sides or chisel grind. I know this will compromise blade strength, but I am not making a Strider here. I want this to be a dedicated defensive knife. Quick deploying into pikal, double edged, lock back.

Opinions?

Neat !
Does the 'wave' work ?
Looks like it might be large enough to hang up if you're not careful.

Very cool, congratulations and thanks for sharing. The knife is looking good, although I think the blade's overall resistance was diminished. Still useful though.

Since I no longer have this knife, here's what I can show you. This is from before the cut.

edit:
Here's another I had done a year before. BM630. Same idea.

I did the same thing, rather crudely, to a Cara Cara of my own. It works well. Because the work was so crude it took only two or three minutes to lop off and grind a bit.

G10 Cara Cara. At approx $40,
Opinions?

Where are you buying them that they cost you so much?

Online price is ~$25. With shipping you should be paying total of about $30.

OPINION: I prefer them without the wave.

But, if you like em that way, have at it.
