Does anybody know of any liner-locking knives out there comparable to the byrd line as far as quality and price go? I just love the ease of use of a line, and haven't run into any problems with them...ever... since I started EDC my sahara back in the day. The CRKT M16 looks good, and I do like AUS8 for a working blade, but I'm looking for something at or just below 3" with a plain edge, and I don't notice any CRKT m16's fitting that script.

Hmm linerlock.. I got my Kershaw Scallion (my first Kershaw in years) for , I think it was $35 , it is AO.
Absolute love , this knife. I did a few minor mods to it , namely on the lockup but even out of the box this knife is a gem , the AO is so wicked..... Small , pocket friendly to a degree , razor sharp recurve blade and very handsome.
Price is more than your Byrd but not much.

I've played with those Kershaws I bit, not really my style. Just don't need a AO, and those recurves are wicked to sharpen. The two that I have an eye for if I pass on the byrd are the Junglee Sahara Jr (had one before, it was great but looked too much like a weapon IMHO) and the CRKT M16.

Junglee makes a "Marshall Junior". They also make a "Mini Tri Point". Both have AUS10 blades. The blade design looks more like a cutting tool and less like a weapon than the Sahara series.

I have a full size Marshall with a 3 1/2" blade. The handle on it is not robust enough. But I think that with a shorter blade the handle design would be adequate. My Marshall has a really solid lockup. No blade play at all in any direction. I haven't used it enough to be able to report on the edge retention. But the steel takes a good edge. And AUS10 should be better than AUS8. My expectation is that it will be in the range of VG10. But I've not yet had time to test.

I'm reasonably pleased with the quality of Byrd's line, including the Crow and Raven which I've played with, but their liner locks are a far cry from a Benchmade or CRKT. Flicking it open caused it to stick.
