Byrd hardness

Thanks Dave, that was an interesting thread. I might have to give a byrd knife a try, though I would have to squint my eyes over fixed exchange rates.

I didn't realize 8cr13mov was so descriptive (Carbon .8%, Chromium 13%, Molybdnem and Vanadium included), I just chalked it up as some gibberish-looking thing. Funny how they changed the steel name to that because 440c was inaccurate.

It's also interesting that 8cr13mov might actually be BETTER than the 440c it was supposed to immitate and it can take higher hardness.

The execution is solid, they definately don't look or act like you would expect given their price. My only negative experience is that after a few months of use (some really heavy, like chopping and such), the pivot has loosened a little so there is some side play, and there is no real way to address it. I should have just kept one of them for just cutting chores for comparison, retrospect makes perfect. Of course this doesn't effect the functionality so I don't care about it. I intend to give it to friends to EDC after I finish some work I have planned to see how it holds up after a year or so of constant carry.
