Considering the price and the Byrd status, this may be expected as a lower level knife, however it isn't so constructed and the performance doesn't merit such status.

The only complaints I have are that the clip loosened and it is fasten with odd star heads, and the pivot loosened slightly during use, some of which was very hard.

I intend to EDC this for awhile to check on the blade play development, which to date doesn't effect performance. Ref :

What are "odd star head" screws? The ones holding the clip on in the picture at the Spyderco website look like torx screws, but I'd assume Cliff would be able to ID those.

Interesting... All I ever heard called star was Torx. And perhaps Pozidriv but not in English. Maybe it's the twelve-lobed Spline?

Though there are at least 5 different Torx variants.

Edit:
here they mention something called Eight-wing of which I have never heard before. Not that is it? Nice page that anyway.

I have a spyderco and the clip became loose. I sent it to spyderco for a repair (different from clip, wife broke off tip). They returned it fixed and also fixed the clip. You need to put locktite on the screws and the will never loosen. I have caught mine spyderco on many things and the clip is still sturdy. So do like spyderco and locktite the clip.

I can't sharpen my serated spyderco so i think i will get a meadowlark with a plain edge to replace it.

Great review! Thanks. Are you going to test the Crow or Raven?
I about fell over when I saw where you attached it to the stick. You are one hard core knife tester. I eagerly await your reviews. They definitely affect which knives I purchase.

Yes, the rods are triangular and will fit inside the scallops. You can sharpen a serrated knife very similar to how you would a plain edge. I sharpen a serrated Spyderco Salt about once a month.

I got my Byrd Meadowlark yesterday. I paid about $22 for it. I got the plain edged knife. In comparison to my Delica it is the same length and shape. My favorite things about the Delica are how thin it is, the clip, and the hole for opening. Other knives are too thick to be comfortable in pants pocket, but both the Delica and Meadowlark are thin and comfortable. The belt clips are slightly different in shape and the Byrd clip does not have the spider on it. Otherwise, the Byrd clip seems to be solid. The only complaint is I like the knife tip down and the knife came tip up. I can’t find a torq tool small enough to take the clip off. The hole in the Meadowlark pinches my finger just a bit when I am “playing” or fidgeting with the knife, but is not at all uncomfortable in normal opening operation. I have not found a one handed opening system I like better then the Spyderco hole.

Overall the knife feels quite solid. I am by no means an expert. I am a very casual knife user, but happy with this knife.

Any suggestions on moving the clip positions?
