I just received both knives on Friday and I am very impressed with both.
The Byrd was very affordable for the quality of knife I recieved. The design fits my hand like a glove. The traction provided by the grooves on the top and bottom of the handle add safety from slips. The knife has a very sturdy blade for its size. Although the knive is small overall there is enough length to fit my hand perfectly. To me the knive says hard use in a small package. It wont replace my Chive for EDC but it will for any travels that might call on a bit more knife. Fit and finish are pretty much on par with my SS Native from Spyderco.
The Al Mar Mini-Sere will now be my main camping folder. The knife is built solid, except the clip, with excellent cutting ability. The Mini-Sere just fit my hand, the larger Sere may have been better, but has enough room not to be uncomfortable. It was by far the best knife I have at making those fire stick things, Damn I cant think of the name. Very sturdy and felt natural in my hand. To clarify I tried to adjust the clip tension and snapped it the first night I had it.
