Hello. Got a Byrd robin a few weeks ago for a spare edc. I have noticed that there are indentations near the base of the blade from the knife opening and closing. Like a couple rainbow shaped scratches at the base of the blade. Seems like its rubbing on something causing these scratches. I would have thought the steel would be harder than anything on the inside of the knife. Do I have a lemon? If I buy another will I likely be okay? Thanks

Those scratches result probably from the detent ball rubbing against the blade tang, which is perfectly normal for linerlocks and framelocks.

Thanks for the reply. I dunno, they're in different places. What do you guys think? I like the knife as a backup but the scratches drive me crazy. And they're not exactly blemishes, when I run my fingernail across them they can be felt easily. Any ideas? Here's a picture.

Thanks!

Looks more like the nested liners rub on the blade.

Is there any lint inside?

If you can take apart and polish the liner, maybe there are residues/sharp edges from the manufacturing...

There's no issue. I know it may bother you, but it's actually fine. It's what happens when the liners rub the tang of the blade and will not affect reliability, durability, or performance.
