C ase knife, what is this blade for?

It's a leather punch with about a third of it broken off. Don't think Case has used that style of punch for a while -- an older stockman most likely, with the squarish looking bolsters, possibly a 75 pattern (Case produced several of their stockman patterns with both punch (model number with PU) and usual blade variants -- haven't made any recently IIRC).

Looks like it used to be a punch. Not sure.

One of the blades/tools in the knife should have the pattern number on it, which would/should identify the type. With the yellow delrin(?) scales, yours might likely start with a 3, I think, probably followed by 3 other digits (and then perhaps followed by the 'PU' as zerogee suggested).

Definitely a broken punch blade - that style of punch is what I refer to as a "wraparound" punch. There was also a flat style punch blade.

I would be interested in seeing a picture of the whole knife. In the post WWII years the only composition handled stockman that Case made with a punch blade was the 4318 in the XX era. In the pre-WWII era a lot more variations were made but even there were relatively few offered with a punch blade.

thanks, guys a friend of mine took the picture as the 80something year old who owns the knife was curious. friend says if he ever gets to see it again he will try to get more photos and look for marking s many thanks for your help
