Guys,

Has anyone who ordered a C/P TANTO gotten it yet? I ordered mine almost as soon as the shop opened, but haven't heard a thing back. I imagine they probably do the knives in batches, so maybe the Tantos just have not come up yet. I hope I did not fall through the cracks somehow.

Give me strength to be patient!

-Scott

Scott,
I didn't order a tanto, but Ii did order a commander from the c/p shop
that was back in april, and no I haven't gotten it yet. Derek did email me and said that it was going to take longer because what I ordered. You might want to drop them a line with your general info, they're really good at responding to emails.

Scott - I DID order a Tanto, and have received it. It took a bit longer than they said it would on the website, but I got a call from Mary when it was ready.

That's a long time, but its well worth the wait. This is perhaps the most overlooked Emerson production knife. Even the Raven gets more attention. However, I feel that this model is without equal in the line-up. It a true sleeper.

I agree Ark. It's my favorite production piece, followed (VERY) closely by the Commander. Why there isn't more interest/hype about it I'll never know.

Robert, I have to agree with ya'll that the Tanto is a classic. I'm thinking it's second only to the Commander in my eyes.

As to why it really hasn't caught on, I'm thinking it's because it's an exclusive. The SOCFK is the other exclusive, but it was VERY popular. The difference is that Steve from Extreme Outfitters knew he had a winner and really ran with it aggressively. Hell, I&I doesn't even show the Tanto on their web site, much less advertise the damn thing. Damn shame.

Hi all!

Only one big problem with the I&I tanto, no wave!!!

If it had a wave i'd buy at least 2, now i'm only going to buy 1...

I like tantos, i like large folders, i like waved folder i'd LOVE a large tantoed waved folder!!! :D

So, come on now EKI, you can do it! ;)
(Hope that i'll never meet Derek, been bugging him maybe too much about a waved I&I tanto... )

The SOCFK has all the right characteristics for commercial success: Black, tanto, serrated and waved (first waved tanto no less). However, much of the SOCFK's success can be directly attributed to the knife's connection to its intended users (NAVSPECWAR Community).

Extreme Outfitters definitely featured the SOCFK more than I&I did with the Tanto. I&I wanted an Emerson exclusive primarily for their Japanese customers which is probably why the tanto has not recieved more exposure here in the states. As to whether the knife is a hit with the Japanese...?

What are you swedes doing to our language?!!
"Tantoed" is not a legitimate adjective!
(It can be argued that "waved" is, so I won't go there)

Yeah?! i kinda figured, didn't know that one was forced to be 100% gramatically correct here , it's not an English lesson here is it?

Hi guys!

Nice that i could invoke some laughs :)
SARK's in the water? VERY neat Tam, and most possible true too... ;)
SARK's and waves go along nicely.

that tanto doesn't look bad at all now that I think about it.. more balanced design than the 7.. hnn slap slap.. it's a folding tanto what am I thinking >_< I need some rest.

incidentally is the new emerson i&i tanto a "true" chisel grind like the esm1 or is it a not so true chisel grind like the commander? thanks in advance.. I don't lek the looks of this :p.

If by a "true" chisel grind, you mean a single bevel which begins in the middle on the blade and constitutes the cutting edge, that is only found (to the best of my limited knowledge) on custom knives (yet not on all custom knives).
All the production knives, including the i&i Tanto have the secondary bevel.

sory I guess I wasn't clear on that one (my fault) :p I was not asking whether or not the i&i tanto was zero ground but like the analogy between the commander and esm1.. is the "right side" ground at all or completely flat?

the commander is sculpted/ground on both sides but the secondary bevel is only on the left.
