Looking for an unusual production fixed blade
The Desperado has caught my eye.
Does it come in a plain edge?????
Any comments????????
I've decided against a C/S safe keeper because of legal carry issues.

Marty,

The CS Desperado is AWESOME!! I carried one every day for over 2 years. I had absolutely no complaints about it. As far as I am concerned, it is the best production fixed blade for concealed carry.(inside waistband) It is a tough knife that cuts forever. You can't go wrong with this knife.

Love those grayhounds!!!
I have the small safekeeper...the problem is with it being a push dagger design; the back edge is false so it is not really a dagger, but it will violate the laws of a "push knife." That being said, it is a very small package due to the handle shape, with a nasty thick blade.
I wonder if the Desperado would be considered a push knife, due to the handle shape?? if not, i'd certainly go for it...just check your municipality's laws regarding legal length.

Blackdog gave me one to review last year. I found it to be a very nice knife. The 8A blade performed very well. The only thing I did not like about it was the serrations. I have recently started to sharpen them as plain edge, it still looks serrated, but it cuts like a plain edge now.

I have heard that comment a lot but I can assure you that the Desperado is NOT a push knife. Trying to hold it as so would not work. I honestly don't see how it can even be held as such, the handle just does not fit securely in the hand, AT ALL! It is about as secure as holding a machete like a push knife.

I had one for awhile. Well made. Smaller than I expected. If it is legal to carry a concealed fixed blade in your area this one may still get you hassled. It just looks kind of extreme to most non-knife folks. Overall I give it ****.

Very useful piece. To use it as a push knife, though, you need very
large hands. I have destoryed various soft objects by using the
desperado like a push knife.

I'd wish they'd made a plane edged version, though.

The sheet is sub-optimal, though. I prefer leather when I wear it IWB.

You better get one now I got my Cold Steel Christmas Cat. and they say that they are closing them out because they are too expensive to manufacture in Japan.
C/S is selling them for $60.00
the code in the Christmas cat. is XF49DS

Hi again AAGD,
I see that you're going in a slightly different direction now.
I guess that you found out that carrying a "push dagger" in your locale might not be a good idea. Unfortunately, that is the reality for most of us.

I still have some more advice regarding this knife (The Desperado) as well.

Even though, technically speaking, it is probably OK to carry legally if it falls within blade length limitations (it has a 5" blade), I still believe that you will have a very difficult time explaining to Mr.LEO that this is just a "pocketknife" or a "tool".

Cold Steel descibes this knife as "Ideal for outdoorsmen, military personnel, and those seeking the ultimate in self defense."

I would agree with their description to some extent. I believe that this knife is for self defense or offensive purposes only.

So, even though I own 2 Safekeeper II's and I love the look of this one, I think that if you intend on using it as everyday carry, then think twice about legallity issues.

If you are still intent on buying, then take Darkjedi's advice.
