I hope no one takes this the wrong way, but I'm still trying to figure out why BK&T is releasing a C/U 9, especially when they already have a 9" workhorse called the Brute??? FWIW, I am perfectly happy with my Brute - I just don't know if I need a C/U 9.

Squid,
I here you, but keep in mind, some folks have different qualities in mind when they think of what they want in a 9" backcountry do all blade. The BRUTE is a awesome knife, but some users prefer a more straight edged, conventional blade. Some folks like a thinner edge, ground from thinner stock. Some folks want a lighter weight package. And as much as I can't believe it sometimes, some customers want to spend LESS $$$$$$.

I love my BRUTE, and there is certainly nothing wrong with its proven design, but that shopuld not keep us from coming up with newer models to satisfy more users.....

See my description of the BK&T COMBAT BOWIE, model BK9, in the thread linked below....

Thanks for being a customer!

Will, a very good discription of matching the tool to the user and the job.
Kinda like saying say why we don't all drive Chevy's, ( GM would really like
it if we did tho)

I wanted a C/U 7 but didn't because it was a reduncacy to what I already had.
Now the C/U 9 is offered which changes things a mite. This knife looks like
could replace my truck machete which as been a bit to big and heavy of late.

Thanks, Will!

I guess I just didn't know enough about the new offering. But now that I do, it looks like I'm going to have to pick one up! :D

I am also interested in opinions of the Brute vs BK9 so i am bringing this thread bttt.

Which excels at what?

The BK-9 is essentially a "leaner, meaner" Brute.
The Brute was designed a decade ago out of inferior steel for the job which is one reason why it is so beefy and too brutish for some.

It is a stout muther, but the sabre grind and thick stock= thick edge.
Which translates into inferior performance in most cutting tasks to the CB-9.

The Brute is a neat knife but too bulky for many and some find the recurve hard to sharpen.

It boils down to personal preference. If you want a beefier knife go with the brute. If you are looking for more of a real world big utility chopper go with the CB-9. FWIW, I think the BK-9 sheath is s uperior unit in many ways to the Sheath of the Brute.
