Just received a few days ago a C12CFS and thought I'd post my initial observations:
QC,fit and finish :
All excellent with beautiful carbon fiber scales. Lined on one side, with substantial SS spacers. There is lots of lateral strength here. The action is very smooth with no blade wobble whatsoever.
ATS 55 steel :
IMHO this steel should be more than adequate for the intended uses for this knife. This is not for whittling tent pegs or even for "regular" usage. There would seem to be no need for a super steel like BG42 or 440V.
Blade style:
Obviously outstanding for a pure defensive piece. Could be effective without alot of martial arts training on the part of the user. Tip strength was an initial concern, but after consideration, it would appear to be fine. This is a very limited-use piece.
Size:
Good overall blade length and handle size. Handle is very similar to the Military, but a bit smaller. The Military probably intended for the gloved hand.
Reversible clip:
For tip up or tip down carry. A thoughtful feature. This is probably more of a tip down carry naturally, but the option is with the owner.
Final Thoughts:
This is a very well-executed knife with QC as good or better than I have seen on any Spydie. It even seems to have been "hand-tweaked". I could easily see this being a favorite of the law enforcement community. It will have a priviledged place in my collection.
