This is the last of the latest shipment, recieved on 29 Aug 02(Thursday). I tried to do a review earlier, but it just didn't want to go to my pocket.
---------------
Native review:
Handle:
The deep choil allows for a very comfortable grip. The handle fits my hand like a glove. It even fits better in left than in right. The weight distribution is well done in this model, allowing fine work.
Blade/Edge: 440V
The CE almost doesn't have any PE for the tip. I was expecting about an inch or so of tip, and end up with about 1/2-3/4" of tip. The serrated edge really bits in, and does an excellant job as a bagel slicer(breakfast today). It just sails through cardboard(lastnight's pizza box), and keeps on going. My first real experience with the serrated 440V edge is great. While the cricket had little workable edge(other than cardboard boxes), this sucker just jumps at the chance.
Fit/Finish:
Put together well, I have but minor problems. The dent was put too far back, requiring pressure in front of the dent to close. I have gotten used to it, but it as annoying at first. There was a slight grinding feeling when closed right handed, but not left handed. I had to oil with breakfree and got some small grit for my work. It's now smooth again both sides. Also, there is a small amount of play side to side. I am considering sending it in to have Mike/Crew touch it up, or just tapping it myself.
Lockup:
WOW! This sucker locks up well. The click can be heard in the other room. It was smooth to begin with, and hasn't changed. There is a small amount of play side to side, but nothing vertical.
Movement/Final:
I am impressed with the Native. It grips your hands, and stay there. It feels more at home in a left side carry, and this means the serrations were put on right... most models they are made for right handed use, and then feel odd in left. Other than the play and dent, this is a perfect model.
Well done, keep it up spyderco.
Thanks Linda.
