How durable is the Ti handle on the C46. Does it mark/rub easily ?
And if it does can it be fixed or buffed out?
Any coating on this handle ?
Any info from owners of this model greatly appreciated.
thanks,regards,rick.

The Titanium handle will mark up some under heavy use. I am not aware of any coating on it. Although it might be anodized>> I hope someone knows the straight scoop on it.

I have a G-10 C-46 Lum tanto folder that I carry from time to time but My Titanium Lum I don't carry at all. It is high on my collector list. I have heard that Titanium polishes out .

Also I think the Lum Tanto design is truly the best and most functional tanto I've ever owned.

Rick,

The titanium handled Lum is bare uncoated ti with a fine beadblast. It will mark easily with normal use, however it is pretty much indestructable. The slab can be re-blasted to look new again.

great knife!

It seems that's true of most Spyderco models!
Any exceptions to that rule?
Regards,Rick.

There are some models where there were rumored to be fewer PE models made, like the Rescue knives. Though even in that situation, the PE is more desired.

Will Spyderco re-blast the handle? Or, do you have another reference for doing this?

Thanks.

Slatts,

I don't know if Spyderco would perform this service or not.
I'm sure they have a bead blast cabinet as would just about any metal working shop.
If you know someone in a machine shop they may do it for you but you may void the warranty, the process takes all of 2 minutes.
I have personally refinished a few ti handled sebenzas.

spyderco will not re-do the handles for ya, i tried to get them to re-do a lum i had and they wouldnt, dont remember the reason now though.

i sent in the lum and a millie with a bad lock and at first "no problem" re beadblasting the lums handles, and fixing the millie, but i got a phone call a few weeks later and no dice on the lum, they did fix the millie though FWIW.

they do scuff up easily though, some people say they look just fine scuffed up, i think they look worn out and funky, i know the Ti ATR doesnt scuff anywhere near as easily as the lum did for whatever reasons, maybe harder Ti??.

Plain edge is almost always harder to find.
That's usually true, for me. However, It took me twice as long to find a CE Ti. Lum as it did my PE.
Probably my shyty luck, though.

The Lum is beadblasted, and the ATR is satin finish, is a coarser finish, therefore, scuffs less.
