Today I acquired a LUM and I am impressed with this knife. The heft and feel are fantastic. This is a heavy-duty knife. Excellent job Sal!

I have a queston does anyone know if a left-handed LUM was made?
I like to carry my knife so it is accesible with my suppot hand (left) Would the factory install the clip on the left side?
Also mne is #730 anybody know how many were (or are) being made?
Thanks

Grant,
Unfortunately no lefty Lums...except I'm a lefty Lum. Too bad for

Love Mr Lum's design. Some guy posted a thread over the knife's "cheap" liner lock.

I think the accusation is unfounded because the Lum Tanto is really solid!

Grant, it is my understanding, Spyderco only numbers the first 1000 before it goes in to regular production! There are 1000's of Lums out there, but only 1000 numbered. I hope this helps. If I am incorrect, I'm sure Sal or someone will correct me. Thanks, Ron.....

Hmm... Both of my Lums appear quite solid, but I must confess that, to date, I've felt they are too pretty to use [actually, my numbered one (#756) will not be used at all], much less abuse. Does anyone (Sal?) know what metal the liner-lock is made of? Despite the post referred to above, I just can't see Spyderco using a cheap, weak material for the lock on a knife that is otherwise built like a tank.

Personally speaking -- The Lum Tanto is an artpiece made affordable to most of us spydernuts. I guess many would agree that Spyderco wouldn't use cheap liners that snaps like a twig!

If it was true -- there'll have to be photographic evidence sanctioned by experts who had examined it. In Malaysia, the Lum Tanto is priced at $800, that's almost four times the price compared to the ones in the US. Surely, Sal wouldn't want to let anyone down by ripping them off with cheap liners!

I really, really, really, wish these liner locks would go away. Give me a Police.
