I noticed on my new appaloosa stockman the blades are made out of C75 carbon steel, I also couldnt find much information on this forum about the composition of the steel itself,. . . so I went lookin for it to post, seems to be
very similar to 1070-1080 with just a smidge of chromium to make some carbides. probably be on par with old school L6 minus the nickel. Which is good becuase it should be easy to sharpen and should hold a working edge for a good long time using it. :D

Steel grade C (%) Si (%) Mn (%) P (%) S (%) Cr (%)
Docol C75 .70-.80 .15-.35 .60-.90 .025 .025 .20-.40

Water quenched HRC 65
Oil quenched HRC 62

Thank you kindly for the info. I've searched around in the past for specs on this steel, but never came up with any good info.

Thanks J.S.

This one isn't updated yet on the german boker site steel charts. Wonder why this steelchart isn't displayed on the US site.

Watch out for all those wild turkeys. .. Have a good X-mas .

also found some tasty info at: (seems to be a conversion chart, Says C75 is what we call AISI 1074 (atleast I was close!)

C75, is in theory plain 1075 carbon steel: 0,75% carbon, 99,25% iron

As with most AISI "generic" steel types, small marginal differences/additions are allowed to improve properties.
