A friend has roughed out a blade - a big bowie from some steel he got when he lived in South Africa. It is supposedly "c75 stainless steel" but I can find nothing about this. Does it have another name? Is it actually stainless? Can it be heat treated?
thanks guys

C70 and C75 are NOT SS steels, they are plain carbon steels analogous to AISI 1075. At least, here in Europe.
Heat to non mag, quench in oil, you may edge quench for differential hardening, temper in oven at 200 °C for 1 hour for 58-59 HRC hardness.

Thanks for the info.
I tested the steel with blueing solution and it is definitely not stainless. Now at least I know what to do with this knife.
Thanks again.
