Does anyone know what the restrictions are for the lengths of folding knives and fixed blades in California?

Thanks,

Thanks Danceswithknives... I kninda forgot that the search funtion existed for a moment...

My results were interesting though, because some of what I read seems to me to be false, or at least I hope it is.

Before posting this thread I was under the impression that it was a statewide law in CA that, while within city limits, no folding knife with a blade over 4" and no fixed blade could be carried that had a blade longer than 5". I wasn't sure of the laws concerning concealment. Occording to my search, I was able to ascertain that there was no limit to the length of a blade, fixed or not, just so long as you didn't conceal a fixed blade... this seems all good and fine to me. I also read in one post that a new CA law was recently passed prohibiting the carry of any knife that can be opened by flicking the wrist (i.e. counts as a switchblade), this concerns me because I have never been warned of such when I was looking at knives like that at my local dealer, who is so good about pointing out when you are looking at a knife that would be illegal to carry...

Anyone out there that can clarify this??? My EDC is a Benchmade 910HSSR Stryker and I would like to be able to continue to carry it...

Thanks,
-Kevin

I believe that one of provisions of the CA law is that one-handed folders are excluded and the knife is okay if it's biased to remain closed. (Like a detent on a linerlock.)

It is a ball on a liner that when the blade is closed fits into a notch in the blade. This helps keep the knife closed.

Keep in mind that local laws can be more restrictive than the state law.
