in 2008 I moved to washington state from california for 6 months, and I'm trying to do my taxes through online filing. WA doesn't have a state income tax, so I don't think I need to file a return there.

One of the stated requirements on the calreg website is that you had to be a california resident all of 2008 in order to file through calfile (online). What exactly does that mean? Do I have to file a paper return, or go through a cpa?

I would have done my taxes in february, but lenscrafters is really, reeeeally bad at doing w2's and only got it to me on monday of this week. any help would be very, very appreciated.

E-File at this site:

www.taxact.com

I have used them for the last few years with excellent results.

They are IRS approved, and free efile for federal. Cheap state file.

several hours later, I went through tax act and was able to do the whole "part time" state return. that was definitely a good step by step site, thanks!
