Cabelas are, I believe, the only place that a 110 can be bought with an S30V blade. I may be wrong, but I can't seem to find one anywhere else. I wanted one so I got in touch with Cabelas who told me that it was against Federal Law for them to export the knife to the UK !
So, when my brother went to the US on business it was an ideal opportunity to avoid the hassle of them having to post the thing to the UK as he could take delivery whilst he was there. I contacted Cabelas online customer support and explained that I wanted the knives mailed to a US hotel address on a specific week and asked if that would be OK. That was fine by them as long as I used the Priority mailing service. I placed the order online and went away for a few days.
On my return I had e-mail from Cabelas saying that my order could not be processed as they needed confirmation that the knives (One for me, one for a mate) were going to be staying within the US as it was againast Federal Law to export them ! Despite my phoning them to explain that there were no legal restrictions on me possessing the knives here amd that I have had many knives posted from the US they insisted that they couldn't sell me the knives !
How the hell is a guy supposed to get hold of a decent knife if he comes up against this sort of bull**** ?
If it's legal to export a Buck/Strider 880 SP and a 888 Solution what makes the Alaskan Guide series so damned special when it comes to clearing Customs? Is S30V a national secret that we Brits aren't supposed to know about?
Needless to say, that as a guy who shoots, fishes, hunts, collects knives AND cares about who he does business with, I'll NOT be buying anything from that particular company ever again.
