Cabela's D2 Grip versus Ritter S30V grip

Which do people like better? My experience is that the D2 and the S30V perform similarly enough for me not to make that the deciding factor. Is one blade shape more generally useful than the other? The Ritter specs make it the heavier knife, but I'm wondering if one actually feels better in hand than the other (weight measurements are often inaccurate on websites).

Thanks.

The RSK is worth the extra dough to me, but the D2 grip is an excellent value...both would feel the same in the hand--both have the same handle.

+1 on the RSK. I have both the mini and large RSK. I also have the Cabela's D2 mini, I'll get the large later--just to have, because I love drop points. Between the Cabela's mini and the RSK mini, I like the mini-RSK better. To me, it just feels better in the hand because of the extra weight in the blade. This enhances the flicking experience. :)
The blades of the RSKs appear more generous in size--because they're wider, compared to the vanilla versions of Griptillians. The RSKs also have a stone washed finish, which I love. It hides scuffs and scratches better.

The Cabela's D2 blade is coated with BT2 which will scratch off with use.
The Cabela's D2 blade has a false edge on top, near the tip. The RSK has none. The false edge should make for a better penetrating point, if you would ever need to use the blade for thrusting.
***EDIT** Whoops. Sorry, upon closer inspection the the Cabelas D2 mini actually does not have a false edge. The tip is still pointier than the RSKs.

Let us know what you decide to go with.

I don't think there is enough difference in D2 and S30V to even matter. I however like the black blade and the shape of the regular grip better so I'd go with D2 all the time.

I think D2 is better than S30V and the D2 Grips are cheaper anyway. :)

Tough call, but I think I'm going to go with the Ritter first, and then get the D2 when my knife budget replenishes. The comment on being more blade-heavy sold me. For some reason, blade heavy knives feel better in the hand. Not sure why, but they just do.

There's an M2 Ritter Grip too - which makes deciding even harder!

I seem to be amassing a Mini Grip collection. I have the Mini RSK MKI, Cabela's Mini Grip, standard 556 in 440C - and the M2 limited edition Mini RSK MKI on order!

If you have the money I'd get one of each and try them. You could easily sell the one you don't like (or give it to a relative as a nice gift).

The ritter wins hands down in terms of blade shape/grind/weight in my opinion. I have a mini in s30v and both sizes in M2 on order.

That said, I use my D2 mini all the time while my s30v mini-ritter sits unused. I previously bought a Native in s30v and found that it chipped after light use.. so I searched these forums and came up with all kinds of complaints about chipping RSKs. So I've never gotten around to really using it much for fear of having to work on it a bunch after light use.

The D2 seems to be holding up very well, but I don't really care for the blade shape or coating. I'd love to see a ritter blade in uncoated D2.

I have two RSKs - full and mini - used regularly on all sorts of materials and neither of them have ever chipped.

I have both a mini Cabelas D2 and a mini Ritter. The D2 holds an edge a little better, the Ritter has much better edge geometry. I tend to carry the mini Ritter a lot more.

More general question for those of you with Minis: can you get your whole hand on the handle, or is it really made for a three finger grip?

In my medium sized hand, edge down, sword grip (used often), 3 or 3 1/2 fingers; hammer grip (not used often), 4 fingers. Edge up (used often), 4 fingers.

In most uses, I have a three-finger grip. The shape of the handle with the "guard" make it hard to get a whole hand on the handle. If I were planning on using it a lot for hard work, I would look at the full-size Grip.

I find it to be a 3.5 finger handle. I added a Sebenza-esque lanyard to mine, and with that little bit of extension--it feels like a 4 finger grip. YMMV.
