Cabelas Griptilian Issues?

Hey all,
I'm new on the forum and new to the world of knives, so I am sorry if I am just being paranoid for no reason.
Couple weeks ago I picked up a plain edge Griptilian at Cabelas, their own model with the olive handles and D2 plain edge blade. I only had it for a few days and did only the lightest work with it (opening cardboard boxes, some food prep, etc) before I noticed something. There would be a distinct clicking noise when pressure was applied forwards or backwards to the opened blade. I could just put my hand on it, wiggle it up and down, and hear clicks galore. Now I have read other threads that have to do with the knife clicking as it opens, but this happens with the knife in the open state. I wasn't sure if this was a lock or handle issue, or a safety issue for that matter, so I took it back to the store for a different one and upon inspecting three or four of the olive handled, Cabelas Griptilians, all of them had the same click! Long story short I swapped mine for a black handled standard Grip with plain edge and it did not have this noise.

So my question to you folks is whether or not this was something to worry about or was I just being a nervous nelly? Again, new to the forum and to knives so just tryin to learn! Thanks!

Had the same issue with a black on black cabelas grip. Returned it. It was the liners moving inside the scales. Had the knife for one day and it made me nuts. Perhaps they made a bad batch or something? Benchmade is usually very good with quality control.

There shouldn't be any clicking. I wouldn't be happy with it, and would do as you did, and get a different one. I don't know why only the green knives did it, and not the black.
Perhaps there was a variation in tolerances, in the scales, in the green batch.
The only thing different in the Cabelas knives is the D2 blade. Everything else is exactly the same.

I think we're starting to get a lot of evidence that their QC isn't excellent anymore.

The clicking sound could be a loose stop pin. (My guess is it does this also if the knife is shaken with the blade closed...) As to the radial, or edge to spine play unlike the common side to side, that's something that should either be returned to the seller or sent up to BKC for servicing under warranty. There aren't many parts not held in play either by the Omega springs or fastened via the handle screws.

For once Joe, I gotta disagree with ya, shouldn't be the stop pin with the blade locked open since the knife would be resting on it and the pressure from the lock would push the stop pin against the liners.

Good point Jon***CLICK***IT'S LOCKED. Stop pin shouldn't move at that point. Wish I could handle this thing, remote diagnosis is always chancy. Again to the OP, if it doesn't feel right it isn't.

Hey if you havent returned it yet, just tighten the bigger screws that connect the handles to the liners and that should stop the clicking.. hope this helps.

Clicking?
I have found two reason for a clicking noise to be present when the knife is apparently functioning correctly.
1.) A loose stop pin, as already mentioned above.
2.) A spring rattle.
Omega springs will sometimes (very rarely) make a clicking sound when the knife is shaken or moved about.
A little grease applied to the spring will stop this.
This spring rattle really has no effect on the function of the lock.
Though it may be annoying.

I bought 2 of these the black/black and the black/OD green. Both seem ok from what I can see. The screws fit snugly and no other issues are present.
