I live in Fort Worth, Texas, and luckily enough, there is both a Cabelas, and a Bass Pro Shops fairly close by.....

I've been to the Cabelas once, but didn't have time to check out the knife section. (The store is pretty fricken' huge)

I'm going to have some spare time next weekend, and am trying to figure out 1. if its worth going to either, and 2. if it is worth it, which should I go to first?

And info on these stores in particular, or the Cabelas bs Bass pro in general would be enjoyed. Thanks.

I went to the Cabelas in Buda and the knife selection was tiny, wal mart carrys more knives. The only good thing about cabelas is they have some exclusives like the Buck 110 in S30V and Benchmades with D2 I think but they dont have a large selection. Bass Pro has a larger selection with a wider price range so you can pick up some decent bargins.

The Bass Pro Shop in my town has a lot of knives. I don't know what type your looking for. They don't have any military or combat type blades that I have seen. I haven't been in a while. It's to far at a giant mall in the middle of nowhere but half the city goes there on the weekend. We don't have a Cabelas
We have a Gander Mountain (in Texas) They have a lot of knives. Again not many combat style blades except for the K-Bars. They have a lot of folders also.

Yes, go to both. Why not ?

Both tend to carry special runs of Buck knives. Usually these exclusives have steels like 154CM or S30V rather than the normal 420HC.

Both, but perfer Cabela's due to it is geared towards the hunter. I also have both and spent thousands at Cabela's and maybe hundreds at Bass pro. AZ Cabela has an awesome gun room. Now you why I spent thousands.

Bass pro down here is pretty good.Selection isnt bad and the prices are about what you'd pay online minus the shipping of coarse.Frequent sales as well.

It's hard to beat Bass Pro--but I have never experienced Cabellas in person...only catalog!

Here in Kansas City area, I work beside BPS and Cabelas is only about 12 miles away.

BPS has a larger selection of blades, but most of the folders are all serrated and they can order plain edge blades.

But I actually like Cabelas better for my overall retirement depleting needs, as I feel it is geared more to the outdoors.

Only BassPro I have ever been to was the one in Springfield Missouri. That store was the Bee's knees. Not only was the knife selection good, they had a good restaurant, barber shop, fast food, internal waterfalls/streams/ponds that had all sorts of healthy fresh water fish and quite a few different types of ducks, had every type of fishing gear I ever needed, plenty of bows. It was the coolest sports store EVER. Not to good on firearms but it blew every Cabelas I have ever been to out of the water.

I'm a Cabelas fan, does there have to an or?

I have both 2 and 1 hour from me really like them both.

I lived in Fort Worth for the last ten years and have frequented both often. I was so happy that they put that Cabelas in a few years back. Anyways, Cabelas by far has a better selection of everything in my opinion. As far as knives go though neither has what I would call a huge selection really, but I'm sure you could order just about whatever you want. I think they just don't stock them all. Again, go to Cabelas first though, you'll like it better!

I have been a huge fan of Cabelas for many years. I admit, their knife selection is not huge, but occasionally you can find something unique or different. Make sure you sign up for their "Club Rewards" card (sort-of a "frequent flyer" program) - it's free - before you go, as it's nigh on impossible to get out of there without spending a TON of money.

As far as expense, well, there are good inexpensive knives and cheap expensive ones. In general, my experience has been that you will rarely go wrong spending more for a knife, as long as you do your homework beforehand. I own several circa-1979 Gerbers and Randalls that are now worth considerably more than I paid for them, which was a heck of a lot of money (to me) at the time.

Have fun and be sure to tell us what you bought!

Don't forget the big difference. Cabellas has the Buck 110 in S30V, Bass pro has it in CPM 154 cm. If you like buck 110's you should get one of each. BTW, both are good steel, CPM 154cm is a bit easier to sharpen. The Cabellas D2 Benchmade grips are nice too.

I might go there, but I've heard that they are pricey. Do you know how much they markup?

I haven't really price shopped House Of Blades but I know they have a huge selection covering a wide range of prices/quality AND they are closer than Cabellas or BPS. Couldn't hurt to look. What kind of knife are you interested in?

When it comes to our two mega stores, I shop Cabellas for huntung and BPS for fishing--every time. They each fill their niche well but I'd bet their knife selection is pretty similar. I've bought knives at both stores but can't remember specifically what either carried. It seems like the selection was pretty limited at both stores.

Definetly cabelas I was just there recently and spend 425 dollars in 5 hours! Love that store! IF you go would you mind picking me up a buck 120 general :) Have fun
