I just looked through the threads for some information on the Alaskan Guide PBS that Cabelas carries and I didn't see a thread on the knife. I'm attracted to the combination of tools in this knife. My only concern is that I had once heard that the PBS knives have very thin and weak locks.

Any info you can share will be appreciated.

Thanks,
:)

PB,

I'm not sure what a PBS is:confused:

It's a crosslock with s30v blade and a saw blade.

Plow,,,,

I doubt that the spring will fail on that cross lock. Should it do so, just remember Buck's lifetime warranty.

I have been playing with a single blade non S30V version of that knife and I would have no problem using that one.

Except,,,it is a drop blade and droppies don't work for me and my deer doins... and I can gut one without doing the split the pelvic thing and without getting gore all over the meat.

So just saying,,,,don't be afraid of it.

Wellll,,,ok...... So it is a spear point. still doesn't work for me :)

Ok thanks guys. Like Ratty said, I have no experience with that style of Crosslock. I have a few in the old style 180 Crosslock and just love that knife. If you get one you will like that S30V steel (great stuff). I'm sure someone will come along who has some comments on using one of these.

Thanks, everyone. Sorry - I guess I should have said cross-lock. Cabelas refers to it as PBS. If anyone else has experience with this knife, please post a comment.

Thanks again.

PBS was cool..... teaches us something.

course my first thought was peanut butter sammwich.:D
I think I am hungry

I have a Cabelas Alaskan Guide PBS. The liners for the lock are a bit on the thin side, but I don't have any worries about the lock failing. I really like the blade; it has a very thin edge with a nice hollow grind and it's a great cutter.
