I am new to Cabela's but I see they have a pro line offering including a Buck General which I think hasn't been in regular production for awhile. What makes the pro line different from the regular line? There is no mention of a premium steel. Thanks.

The Pro-line is the same steel as the regular Buck line, 420HC. If I recall correctly the Pro-line series comes with a lifetime resharpening offer, but I cannot be sure about that.

Thanks for the response. I think you're right. I wouldn't mind the general model although the sharpening service is of no value to me.

The Cabela's Pro Line may not be special, but the Cabela's Alaskan Guide Series by Buck do stand out. They all have S30V alloy blades. There are also some more interesting special Bucks in Cabela's line. Follow the link below. After you check out the Alaskan Guide models click on the "Next Item" link to go through all the flavors of Buck knives at Cabela's.

I agree, the Alaskan Guide series is definitely worth a look. Unfortunately, the the General is not included in the series.

I believe that the general is listed in the Cabela's catalogue, but is not actually available. I purchased a General for a friend out of the display case of local gun shop 2 Decembers ago. I inquired at Cabelas and other internet sites that had them listed, but none were available. I don't believe they are on the Buck site either. My General, which is around 15 years old, has served me extremely well, and I wouldn't part with it for anything. The finish on my knife was substantially nicer than than the one I bought 2 years ago. Machining marks on the blade are much less noticeable.

The General was available from Cabelas as of this last November. I purchased one from them.

The Alaskan guide series looks to be a great value. I could do without the coating, but the price seems good for what you get. I may get a couple for gifts. My dad doesn't like one hand open knives. He is also a lefty. The 110 could be a high performance knife in a design he likes.
