All this yak about the Cabela's Alaskan Guide Buck knives and Cabela's Buck knives has me wondering....

I have only been to the Bass Pro store near the Dallas airport. Have never been to a Cabela's...but there is one about 5 hours away (Reno).

Thought the BP store was way cool.
Is Cabela's as cool as Bass Pro so far as the store itself?
If so, that may be a good excuse for me to check it out.

Inquiring Goose wants to know...

I have not been to the one in Reno, but the ones in Ft. Worth TX, Buda TX, Sidney NE, Lincoln NE, and East Hartford CT are every bit as "cool" as Bass Pro Shops. Actually, I think that Cabela's stores are better. YMMV.

All I can say is that the Cabela's stores are great.

The stores are attractions in themselves in that people go just to look, especially at the taxidermy, and maybe grab a really good sandwich.

Don't know nothing bout no fishin' store.

Cabellas blows Bass Pro AWAY!!!!...

Well ok,,,maybe marginally, but the Cabellas I have been in is larger than the Bass Pro's I have been in.

And either of them does totally blow away Gander Mt.

Yep, I agree with Rodent on this one!! Goose, it's worth the trip if and when you have time.

We have two Bass Pro's and a Cabela's....Cabela's by far:thumbup:

Goose next time ya come to Tejas look me up...we can scoot over to Stroker's for the wet t-shirt contests while cleaning our 110 AG's.:D

Hey Mr. Goose,:D

I have not personally been to the Cabela's by Reno, but I grew up in Truckee and everyone I still know up there says the Cabela's store is awesome. I am planning on a serious (sirus?) wallet lightening trip in August - a trip to Cabela's and then on to the big Reno gun show.:)

Brother Goose,

The Reno Cableas will be worth the trip....and 5 hours is round trip time....well maybe 6 hours for you!!! Cool ride...good eats at the casinos....party time in Reno around the 4th of July or the Hot August Nights gig...Hmm sounds like fun. Just remember shipping cost less than 6 hours of gas....however, not as fun:p:D:thumbup:.

Trouble is, when you get it shipped to you you can't examine it. And you ship back at your own expense usually.......so, there are pros and cons.

I've been to the Bass Pro in Missouri but not the Cabela's which is....I hate to admit, about 10 minutes from this keyboard! :o
I'm afraid to go in there! Too much cool stuff! I will spend way too much $$ and my wife will have me kilt!
I remember at the Bass Pro I was totally amazed! I figured it would take more than a day to properly explore that store.

My opinion - Bass Pro - tops in fishin' gear, boat stuff. Cabelas - tops in huntin' clothes, outdoor gear and (womens stuff). Knives and guns about equal. Nephew lives right beside a Cabelas and prowls bargain barn frequently and gets good deals. BP one hour away use it to meet my old work buddy who visits family nearby but lives 3 states away. Opinions are like , what was that , I forget.....300Bucks

I've been to both BassPro's in Houston and also to the Cabela's in Buda, TX. Cabela's was the best of the three in my opinion.

I've been to two Bass Pro Shops and they are great... The one in Springfield Missouri is better than the one Rancho Cucamonga, I think... Lot of Buck knives and others... There sales suck... I just got back from the Cucamonga Bass Pro shop and bought the new 110 smooth bone handle knife... It's a Beautiful knife... It's comes in a black Limited Edition Box... I haven't been to a Cabela's store yet... But I like there sales on line better than Bass Pro...
