I'm new here so I don't know too much about quality knives, but I was on Cabelas site and they have some browning knives on sale. Regular price $300 something on sale for $99.00. Sound good to me.

For $99, you can do a hell of a lot better than Browning. What kind of knife are you looking for, for what use?

The ones he's referring to were made by Camillus I think. They should be good quality. Made in the U.S.A.

Do yourself a favor and go to a reputable website (email me if you want recommendations) and buy yourself a Buck Vantage Pro. I'm not familiar with the Browning knife you're talking about but with the Buck you'll be paying less that $100 and you'll get s30v "super steel", machined g10 scales, a Bos heat treat and a FOREVER warranty.

I wouldn't buy knives from Cabela's personally. I worked there one winter and their practices were...suspect. For instance we got in a bunch of combo edge Leeks as a special "Hot Buy" item and sold for only $30. What they failed to note in the flyer or in ANY of their advertising material for the sale was that they were all factory seconds (four x's engraved on the obverse of the blade) and bad ones at that. All but two (out of at least twenty) had either severely burnt tips, stripped screws, faulty spring assists, or all three at once. My fellow workers like knives well enough, but they weren't "knife guys" to the degree I was and would have had no idea if it weren't for me. The whole episode left a real sour note in my mouth.

^WOW. Thanks for sharing that. The only reason I have ever been interested in Cabela's was for the Buck 110 Alaskan Guide. Since that is an exclusive knife, it probably is exactly what it should be, but still, I think I'll be limiting my order to just that If I ever pull the trigger.

Thanks for the responses. A real eye opener. Thats why i'm on this sight, so I can learn a little. I'm a little on the cheap side but want decent quality for the price.

I just looked and that is actually one of their "Mastersmith" collection knives. It is a Jim Crowell collaboration and probably a pretty good deal for $99. I'll agree that most of the Browning knives, especially the folders, are sub-par, but this looks ok if you're in the market for a mid-sized fixed blade hunting knife.

As far as Cabela's goes, they are a good place for finding specialty hunting goods but I've gone a few rounds with them on past purchases so can't recommend them as a great internet dealer. There are definitely better - newgraham, knifeworks, knivesshipfree, etc.

Welcome to the site BTW. It's a great place to learn about knives, but beware - it can be addicting!

I'm somewhat tempted by the larger Fitch model but I don't like that Cabela's charges a ridiculous amount for shipping.

All four Browning fixed blade knives on closeout at Cabelas ( Crowell , Fitch, Fisk & Keeslar) are all part of the Mastersmith series. They're all made in the USA and are very good deals at $99.00.

Not every Browning branded knife is junk...
