Hi folks
The winter gives me time to make other than sheaths etc. Had this nice horn sitting around so decided to make a big powder horn. The weeping heart is inlayed copper with tiny brass escutcheon tacks. Copper for the strap fittings with larger brass escutcheon tacks around the plug and neck of the horn. Still to make is the strap and a powder measure and a brush and pick set. Hope you enjoy.
Here it is finished unless I decide to make a pouch for the measure and pick and brush set. I wanted the tools to be handy in the bush so I did some "keyholes" to hang them from the strap for easy access, it works great. The measure carved antler and holds 65 grains, the pick and brush are carved antler, the plug is curly maple with a leather wrap to make sure it seals and stays in. When I make a plug I always carve a hollow in it as a priming spoon that holds a couple of grains of powder.
