Was supposed to do our annual Rend Lake camp, but the wind was just too cold to go tent camping. We decided to go to the cabin instead, and do a hike Saturday. I missed going to the campground, but it was a good choice.

Woke up to a chilly morning:

Now that the leaves have fallen, you can see the river:

This small tree was growing up in a cedar, so I chopped it down with the 4:

Didn't hit the sweet spot every time, but the chips were still flying:

Just about there:

Delimbing with snap cuts was fun:

A little color:

Went for a small walk down the lane. Looks so different being able to see out into the hills now:

One lone dandelion. Not what you expect to see in November:

Went to Millstream Gardens again, for a small hike. We were gonna hike Silver Mines, but we were running a bit late, so chose the closer of the 2.Millstream Gardens hosts a big kayak race every year. It's on the St. Francis River:

For the biggest part, all paved:

Cat's Paw Overlook. It's much higher than it looks. Cameras never seem to capture depth too well:

Shark's Fin:

Pine Rock Overlook. This was the prettiest place there. My shots do it no justice what-so-ever. I could have stayed at this one spot all day. We were gonna do a small lunch there, but had eaten a bit earlier, so decided not to:

Stopped here for a smoke:

Had a nice warm fire back at the cabin Saturday night:

Sunday morning, the leaves started falling on cue, as if someone pushed a button. They were frost heavy, and started falling. Very overcast Sunday morning:

Been showing the 4 a little love. Chopped, delimbed, batonned, you name it. This blade is so much fun:

Strange anomaly in the sky. It was cooler in real life:

The wife was dying to use her new 15, since we didn't on the trail:

And onto the apples:

Fried apples in bacon grease, with butter and coarse sugar added. 'Twas good indeed:

Taters were too:

Climbed up the hill by the cabin a bit, as we discussed putting a small deck up there. View doesn't seem much different really, so we probably won't:

We had a great time. Thanks for looking.

Beautiful photos Warrior! Next time I make some bacon I may just have to fry up some apples after ;)

Glad the wife loved the 15!

Love all the pics. We don't see as much fall color here so always glad to see it. Thanks for sharing. I think I need to give my 4 some love. I've been alternating 9 and kukri and the 4 has been staying in bed. Time for a wake up call.

Nice pics as always.
Did you happen to hear some rifle fire sat at dusk and/or sunday morning?
I was out on my property last weekend just a few miles from you.

It was good man. I think she'll finally retire her Mora now, haha. She loved how slicey the 15 was.

Thanks man, it was fun. The 4 is a blast to use.

Thanks man. I always hear gunfire off in the distance.

Great pictures, Warrior. Love the big three - trees, rocks and water. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks DOC, appreciate it. We had a blast. It's such a pretty area, with so much to do. Looking forward to many more hikes in the area.

Seriously warrior you need to stop these kind of posts... It makes the rest of us jealous!!! Lol. Great pics as always. I spent my day at hardware stores buying items to finish off a bathroom Reno.... Would rather have been camping.

I must ask a question. Do you swap out your big blade on every trip or is the 4 your main blade?

Haha, thanks man, we have a lot of fun.

I tend to gravitate towards the bigger blades. I've been using the 4 a lot lately, to get more acquainted with it. It's an interesting blade. I still favor my niner, at least for the time being, but damn the 4 is fun. I like using the Brute too. When we go hiking, I take a smaller blade. Well, the BK2 would be the largest of the "smaller" blades I take. I really like the custom 11 Creaky Bones gifted to me. Handle works well for me. I do have an ESEE 3 I really like as well, that my son gifted me for Christmas, but since this is my main forum, I tend to use the Becker blades more. I do want to get out and give the ESEE 3 a work out though.

Cool I use a big and small blade combo but this may go sideways since I just got my hands on a camilus tan bk7.. I was planning on saving it but it feels great and takes an awesome edge... Might have to use it.

Anyone think it is overkill to take a 9,7,16 and a 24 on a trip? Might have to make a sheath for my dog to carry one of them lol

No such thing as overkill, haha. Can never have/take too much steel.

Looks like a very nice place to spend some time in. Nice 4, still need to get a 15, I love the 5 so I should love the 15, right? :D

Thanks man. We really like it there.

Right.

Damn Dubz. One of the most beautifully photographed threads I've ever seen here or anywhere else. Absolutely awesome, made me feel like I was there.

Thanks man, that means a lot to me. You know I put a lot of time and effort into my photos. Took 328 photos, narrowed it down to these.

I think I've asked you before, if you've ever been to Millstream Gardens? Beautiful place. It's about 20 miles from Taum Sauk mountain.
