well maybe i can corner the market on a bad grinding job:foot:.the leather spacers are temporary till i find something better.the guard is some old wrought iron i found in the welding shop(nobody there knew how good that stuff really is) the blade is 11 inches overall 3/16" at the gaurd forged from 1" wire rope.the pommel is a .50 cal shell.start to finish time 5 weeks of picking a few hours at a time:eek:. still need to work on the detail work but the HT and temper seemed to go pretty good.i chopped through a 2x4 and its still sharp /no chips but i cant do the rope cut :grumpy: .i guess its not scary sharp enough.....thanks for looking

Hobby knife maker in the making? You done good! What kind of grind is it on the edge? You work on that and you'll be slicin' rope in no time. :D

Thanks leatherbird, this is my third knife. the edge is 20 degrees as per lansky, i needto make training wheels for keeping a consistant angle on the belt sander .i was trying for perfection on this one but the buzzer in my head went off telling me it was time to move on.
i'm gonna try a non damascus knife next.that cable took forever by hand.

Never underestimate cable welded blades. It is a work horse. A lot of good "how to" DVD's and videos have be produced on this medium. I have won some comps with these blades but they still, "in my opinion" just haven't been popular with the general public. Maybe because if you breath on them they rust. All I can say is they have been a bread and butter knife for me for some time now.

thanks for the kind words guys.i use cable because i get it for free :D . I got about 75' of 1 inch crane cable a few months ago, funny thing is i would have
left it there 6 months ago.if you see a crane working especially a pile driver just ask the crew when they replace the whipline if you can have it. saves themfrom hauling it around.

Hey Joe, that's a B-I-G blade! Don't beat yourself up if you aren't happy with the grind. By golly, that's a huge blade for a hobby guy to tackle. Looks decent so far IMO.

thanks :) Yeah its that big because i played with it so much :jerkit: lol... actually i left the peice long incase i wrecked the tip but it came out ok and i didnt have the heart to cut it off.the last bowie i tried kept shrinking and ended up too small its in the bucket o' shame.

Not to shabby, the bigger the blade the harder the grind. and that's a Big blade!:D
