I forged this Bowie from some 1.25" cable that I salvaged from an old machine shop where I used to play as a kid. Bruce Evans was kind enough to weld me the billet from a piece that I sent him. This piece was too big for my arm to handle!!
The forged blade is 9.75" long and flat ground. The spine starts at slightly over 5/16" thick with a nice distal taper. Point of balance is less than 1/2" in front of the guard. Blade was edge quenched in 140F "Goddard's Goop" and tempered three times at 350F.
The guard and buttcap are 1/8" twist damascus and the grip is a most excellent piece or Red Stag that I got from Dan Gray (aka Graymaker).
I have been saving this piece for a special blade.
Hat's off to Bruce for the super welding of the billet. This massive billet did not show one single inclusion. Awesome! And thanks to Dan for the great piece of stag.
