Cable demascus

I'm fairly new to this forum, so i'm not sure if this has come up but here goes........ Is there a process for making demascus out of steel cable? The cable in question is a piece of steel choker cable. Its three eighths of an inch thick and about three feet long. Whats the best way to turn this into a billet for a knife? And while i'm thinking of it, Is this a valid question here? I'll repost this on the blacksmith site as well.

There are quite a few makers who make and use cable damascus. From what I remember they usually use a thicker cable than that but you may be able to stack pieces or fold it? You will probably get better answers to your question in the shoptalk forum which is for all the knife makers on this site.
